I found a great post by Todd Hargrove tackling the same topic and saying much the same (he does it more succintly and I address a few other areas as well). His post is here: a onclickjavascript:_gaq.push(_trackPageview, /out/www.bettermovement.org/2011/does-excessive-sitting-shorten-the-hip-flexors/); hrefhttp://www.bettermovement.org/2011/does-excessive-sitting-shorten-the-hip-flexors/>http://www.bettermovement.org/2011/does-excessive-sitting-shorten-the-hip-flexors//a>/p>p>strong>The Tight Hip Flexor Bogeyman/strong>/p>p>We too often tell patients that their pain, dysfunction or poor performance on any movement is due to the great bogeyman of hip function - TIGHT HIP FLEXORS. It is quite a go-to explanation for all things bad. Where this idea started I don’t know but it is certainly propagated by the Lower Crossed Syndrome Theory. This theory contends that dysfunction occurs when your pelvis is tilted forward as a result of tight hip flexors, weak glutes, tight low back muscles and weak abs. At its heart, this theory assumes the body works like a puppet where we can tension and loosen our strings (aka muscles) and watch our pelvis dance into some assumed nasty or happy position. a href2012/03/31/are-you-sure-your-hip-flexors-are-tight-if-so-why-and-who-cares/#more-552 classmore-link>(more…)/a>/p> /div> div classfixfloat> /div> /div>div classpost-617 post type-post status-publish format-standard hentry category-barefoot-running category-exercise-biomechanics category-running-biomechanics category-running-injury idpost-617> h2 classstorytitle>a href2012/04/30/rate-of-impact-loading-not-consistently-different-in-shoes-versus-forefoot-barefoot-running/ relbookmark>Rate of impact loading not consistently different in shoes versus forefoot barefoot running/a> /h2> div classmeta_container> div classmeta top_meta> div classmetafield_trigger styleleft: 10px;>by a hrefauthor/admin/ titleView all posts by Greg Lehman>Greg Lehman/a>/div> div classmetafield> div classmetafield_trigger mft_cat styleright: 10px; width:16px> /div> div classmetafield_content> Categories: a hrefcategory/barefoot-running/ titleView all posts in barefoot running relcategory tag>barefoot running/a>, a hrefcategory/exercise-biomechanics/ titleView all posts in exercise biomechanics relcategory tag>exercise biomechanics/a>, a hrefcategory/running-biomechanics/ titleView all posts in running biomechanics relcategory tag>running biomechanics/a>, a hrefcategory/running-injury/ titleView all posts in Running Injury relcategory tag>Running Injury/a> /div> /div> div classmetafield> div classmetafield_trigger mft_tag styleright: 40px; width:16px> /div> div classmetafield_content> Tags: No Tags /div> /div> div classmetafield> div classmetafield_trigger mft_comm styleright: 70px; width:16px> /div> div classmetafield_content> Comments: a href2012/04/30/rate-of-impact-loading-not-consistently-different-in-shoes-versus-forefoot-barefoot-running/#respond titleComment on Rate of impact loading not consistently different in shoes versus forefoot barefoot running>No Comments/a> /div> /div> div classmetafield> div classmetafield_trigger mft_date styleright: 100px; width:16px> /div> div classmetafield_content> Published on: b>/b>April 30, 2020 /div> /div> div classmetafield_trigger edit_link styleright: 130px;>/div> /div> /div> div classstorycontent> div idfb_share_1 stylefloat: right; margin-left: 10px;;width: 55px; namefb_share>div idfb-root>/div>script srcen_US/all.js>/script>fb:like hrefhttp://thebodymechanic.ca/2012/04/30/rate-of-impact-loading-not-consistently-different-in-shoes-versus-forefoot-barefoot-running/ sendfalse layoutbox_count width55 show_facesfalse fontarial>/fb:like>/div>p>strong>Audience: Runners and Therapists/strong>/p>p>strong>Background: /strong>Changing running form, particularly through the aid of minimalist or strong>barefoot/strong> running, is often proposed to change the type of forces that the body experiences during running. Stop worrying about the core. Just get strong during all movements. We try to build capacity to withstand load. We might also improve running efficiency with strength work. There could probably be thirty different exercises below. This is not a program just a few suggestions for what can be easily done. You will notice that there are no exercises that are specifically “core” exercises. I am of the opinion that this is over rated for running and that any benefits to training the core can be gleaned from the appropriate choice of compound exercises. a href2012/03/17/runner-strength-basic-exercise-videos-for-runners/#more-520 classmore-link>(more…)/a>/p> /div> div classfixfloat> /div> /div>div classpost-514 post type-post status-publish format-standard hentry category-exercise-biomechanics category-running-biomechanics category-running-injury idpost-514> h2 classstorytitle>a href2012/03/17/running-injury-prevention-a-brief-review-of-what-we-know-and-more-of-what-we-dont/ relbookmark>Running Injury Prevention: A brief review of what we know…and more of what we don’t/a> /h2> div classmeta_container> div classmeta top_meta> div classmetafield_trigger styleleft: 10px;>by a hrefauthor/admin/ titleView all posts by Greg Lehman>Greg Lehman/a>/div> div classmetafield> div classmetafield_trigger mft_cat styleright: 10px; width:16px> /div> div classmetafield_content> Categories: a hrefcategory/exercise-biomechanics/ titleView all posts in exercise biomechanics relcategory tag>exercise biomechanics/a>, a hrefcategory/running-biomechanics/ titleView all posts in running biomechanics relcategory tag>running biomechanics/a>, a hrefcategory/running-injury/ titleView all posts in Running Injury relcategory tag>Running Injury/a> /div> /div> div classmetafield> div classmetafield_trigger mft_tag styleright: 40px; width:16px> /div> div classmetafield_content> Tags: No Tags /div> /div> div classmetafield> div classmetafield_trigger mft_comm styleright: 70px; width:16px> /div> div classmetafield_content> Comments: a href2012/03/17/running-injury-prevention-a-brief-review-of-what-we-know-and-more-of-what-we-dont/#respond titleComment on Running Injury Prevention: A brief review of what we know…and more of what we don’t>No Comments/a> /div> /div> div classmetafield> div classmetafield_trigger mft_date styleright: 100px; width:16px> /div> div classmetafield_content> Published on: b>/b>March 17, 2020 /div> /div> div classmetafield_trigger edit_link styleright: 130px;>/div> /div> /div> div classstorycontent> div idfb_share_1 stylefloat: right; margin-left: 10px;;width: 55px; namefb_share>div idfb-root>/div>script srcen_US/all.js>/script>fb:like hrefhttp://thebodymechanic.ca/2012/03/17/running-injury-prevention-a-brief-review-of-what-we-know-and-more-of-what-we-dont/ sendfalse layoutbox_count width55 show_facesfalse fontarial>/fb:like>/div>p>strong>Audience: Runners and Therapists/strong>/p>p>strong>Purpose: /strong>A quick guide to running injury strong>prevention/strong>./p>p>strong>Preamble/strong>br/>Injury strong>prevention/strong> for runners is not rock-solidly founded in science… and may not even be possible.
