Born on April 29, 1854 he came from a vast and influential family. His father was an eclectic professor of medicine at the University of Nancy where he contributed a lot to the field; his youngest sister Aline married a famous spiritual philosopher and one of his cousins, Raymond would later become the President of France. Poincare graduated at the top of his class from Lycee University in 1871 with two bachelor degrees in letters and science.br />br />In 1873 after serving time in the Corps Poincare enrolled in the prestigious École Polytechnique where he studied under renowned mathematician Charles Hermite and soon after published his first thesis paper. Graduating in 1874 he then continued his education at École des Mines where he studied advance mathematics and also received an additional degree in general engineering.br />br />Upon his graduation Poincare joined forces with Corps des Mines which became the infamous scene where 18 miners perished and it was Poincare himself that lead the investigations while studying for his doctorate degree in math. During that time he remained a student under Hermite and completed his first thesis paper on the topic of differential equations; one that had not been examined by anyone else of that time. br />br />Poincare is credited with devising a new way to study such equations and geometric equation studies in general. While teaching he also held a position with the Ministry of Public Services as a principal engineer and is given much of the credit for designing and creating the railways from 1881 to 1884. When his hard work was realized there he became the prime engineer for Corps de Mines in 1893 and was later given the title of Inspector General, a position he graciously accepted and was proud of.br />br />Poincare eventually set his roots at University of Paris where he taught for the rest of his career concentrating on teaching students such things as experimental mathematics, theories of probability and physics of mathematics. He also developed an interest in and later taught in subjects of astronomy and celestial mechanics. By all accounts Poincare was adored and respected by both the students that he taught and was a fore leader with his fellow professors who would often seek advice and guidance from Poincare on complicated and unstructured mathematical equations and probabilities. br />br />On a personal level though much of his attention was applied to his studies, Poincare longed for human companionship and in 1881 he found the love of his life in Poulain dAndecy, a beautiful and aristocratic misses whom he married that year and together they had four children. br />br />Although raising four children, Poincare continued to be a presence in the engineering and mathematical communities and in 1887 he was elected to the French Academy of Sciences and later in 1906 became the President; a position that brought him great fame and joy.br />br />Throughout his career Poincare won many awards for his mathematical ingenuity but none so coveted as Oscar II, King of Swedens mathematical competition where his contributes to three body problem solving were phenomenal and opened doors within the mathematical community that had yet to be seen, analyzed and studied. br />br />Along the way though Poincare did suffer some setbacks and not all of what he did was successful and accepted by his peers. Most notably he concurred and agreed to support a radical proposal for the decimalization of circular measure which was an epic fail much to his chagrin. But it further enacted his interest in time zone studies and relative motion both of which he spent countless hours grueling over in his 30s and 40s. Some say he was obsessed far longer than that. br />br />In 1912 Poincare developed some health problems related to his prostate and was forced to undergo a surgical procedure which caused an embolism from which he died that same year.
