In 2016 the strong>Trust/strong> heard from a Siberian sledding kennel in Oregon. The owner, Karen Yeargain, had concerns when pups from different litters were showing weakness in their gait which worsened over time. She suspected that this apparent em>neuro issue/em> might be more than a em>single kennel/em> issue. As a public health nurse, she was determined to find answers. /p> p>She went public with her concerns and contacted Dr Karen Vernau at UC Davis who agreed that this em>neuro issue/em> might be farther reaching, and began a study. At this point, Karen contacted the strong>Trust/strong> which helped publicized the disorder. Soon, more people across the country revealed that they had similar issues. At the 2017 Siberian Husky Club of America’s National Specialty, the strong>Trust/strong> held a fundraiser to help fund the blood tests needed for the em>Neuro Pups/em> in the UC Davis SHPN study. /p> p>As they identified more and more Siberians, the study was moved to the University of Minnesota’s Canine Genetics Lab, where the SHPN genes were isolated, and a Genetic Test was developed. The strong>Trust/strong> thanks and congratulates all involved in this great success story which illustrates what can be accomplished when breeders, dog owners, researchers, and donors work together toward a common goal—the betterment of the lives of Siberian Huskies. /p> p>For more information on SHPN please visit the U of MN Siberian Husky Health Panel page, which includes information on their other Siberian research and genetic testing.br> em>https://vetmed.umn.edu/research/research-labs/canine-genetics-lab/canine-genetics-testing/siberian-husky-health-panel/em>. /p> /blockquote>p aligncenter>strong># # #/strong>/p>p alignjustify>*****************************************************************************************************************/p>blockquote> p>Without the support and donations of Siberian lovers, like you, we would not be able to help so many of our breed in need.br> Thanks to you all for your support!/p>/blockquote>p alignjustify>*****************************************************************************************************************/p>blockquote> p>strong>About the SHCA Trustbr> /strong>Established in 2005, the Siberian Husky Club of America Trust is dedicated to improve the lives of Siberian Huskies in the US through charitable work in the areas of Education, Health, and Rescue. Through fundraising and donations, the Trust provides grants to be used for health and genetic research, to provide educational materials, and to help with local rescue efforts benefitting the Siberian Husky around the Country. Organized as an IRS 501(c)(3) public charity, completely separate from the SHCA, donations to the SHCA Trust may be tax deductible to the extent permitted by law; please consult your tax advisor for details. /p>/blockquote>p> /p>blockquote> p>Partnering with the SHCA Trust for fund raising and grant funding provides the following benefits:/p> ul> li>Tax deductibility of donations: Because the Trust is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, your donations may be tax deductible, which is not the case for donations to other types of non-profit organizations, such as SHCA, Inc. The Trust also provides receipts of your donation for tax purposes. (Please consult with a tax professional for advice.)/li> li>Assurance that donations are used as specified: Because of the Trust’s purpose, as well as our IRS charitable status, we are compelled to do everything we can to assure that all donations are being used for Siberian Huskies. You can be assured that donations made to the Trust will benefit the Siberian Husky, and that donations made to a special fund, such as the Mass Surrender/Seizure Fund, will be used only for Siberian Huskies in that situation. Unlike a donation made directly to a shelter which may not be used exclusively for Siberian Huskies, our grant funding process includes oversight on how the donation is used. /li> li>Combined donations: Your donation will be combined with those from other Siberian lovers, so the total grows. These larger, combined donations can make a more significant impact in the world of the Siberian Husky./li> li>Additional funding from the Trust: When donating to the Trust, your donation is supported by the Trust’s General or special Funds. Money previously donated or that was the result of prior fund-raising efforts is also used to fund our grants supporting the Siberian Husky in our grants for Health, Education, and Rescue./li> /ul> p> /p> p>em>Donations to the SHCA Trust will be used to support the Siberian Husky in the areas of Health, Education, and Rescue within the United States. If donating for a specified fund, should donations exceed the immediate need, the donation balance will remain in that fund for future similar needs./em>/p> /blockquote>hr>p>font size-1 faceArial, Helvetica, sans-serif>Visit us on FaceBook to keep up-to-date on the Trusts current activities:em> a hrefhttps://www.facebook.com/pages/SHCA-Trust/187317971341521>img srcimages/fb_like.png alt width73 height36>/a>./em>/font>/p>hr>p alignjustify>font size-2 faceArial, Helvetica, sans-serif>Last update of this page: 01/10/2025./font>/p>p>font size-2 faceArial, Helvetica, sans-serif>© 2014-2025, Siiberian Husky Club of America Trust., All rights reserved/font>/p> table width904 border1 cellpadding1 cellspacing1> tr> td height64 bgcolor#999999>div aligncenter>font size-1 faceArial, Helvetica, sans-serif>| strong>a hrefhealth.html>HEALTH/a>/strong> | strong>a hrefrescue.html>RESCUE/a>/strong> | strong>a hrefeducation.html>EDUCATION/a>/strong> | strong>a hrefdonate.html>DONATE/a>/strong> |strong> a hrefabout_us.html>ABOUT US/a> | a hrefindex.html>HOME/a> |/strong>/font> /div> /td> /tr> /table>/div>div idLayer12 styleposition:absolute; width:898px; height:187px; z-index:46; left: 9px; top: 11px;> div aligncenter>img srcimages/trust_logo.jpg width800 height356>/div>/div>/body>/html>
