Whether you are a breed enthusiast or just   learning about Siberians, we hope you will find it informative./font>/p>p aligncenter>The mission of the SHCA Trust is to collect and distribute funds to aid thebr>  Siberian Husky breed in the areas of education, rescue, and health./p>p aligncenter>We are dedicated to improving the lives of all Siberians./p>p alignjustify>*****************************************************************************************************************br>  br>  strong>em>It is with great sadness that the SHCA Trust shares the news of the passing of immediate past chair, Mary Uhlir./em>/strong>/p>p alignjustify>*****************************************************************************************************************/p>p alignjustify>strong>RESCUE UPDATE: NEW INTAKE GRANT AVAILABLE JANUARY 1, 2025!br>  Details on RESCUE page./strong>/p>p alignjustify>*****************************************************************************************************************/p>p alignjustify>strong>NEWS RELEASE/strong>:  February 28, 2023/p>p aligncenter>strong>FOR IMMEDIATE  RELEASE/strong>/p>  blockquote>    p>strong>em>The Siberian Husky Polyneuropathy Study Success  Update: /em>/strong> The University of Minnesota, College of  Veterinary Medicine, Canine Genetics Lab has announced that the Siberian Husky  Polyneuropathy genes, Type 1 have been isolated and genetic testing for this  disorder is now available.   /p>    p>This is exciting news as the SHCA strong>Trust/strong> was there at the very beginning.  In 2016 the strong>Trust/strong> heard from a Siberian sledding kennel in Oregon.  The owner, Karen Yeargain, had concerns when  pups from different litters were showing weakness in their gait which worsened  over time.  She suspected that this  apparent em>neuro issue/em> might be more  than a em>single kennel/em> issue.  As a public health nurse, she was determined  to find answers.  /p>    p>She went public with her concerns and contacted Dr Karen Vernau at UC  Davis who agreed that this em>neuro issue/em> might be farther reaching,  and began a study.  At this point, Karen  contacted the strong>Trust/strong> which helped  publicized the disorder.  Soon, more  people across the country revealed that they had similar issues.  At the 2017 Siberian Husky Club of America’s  National Specialty, the strong>Trust/strong> held a  fundraiser to help fund the blood tests needed for the em>Neuro Pups/em> in the UC Davis SHPN study. /p>    p>As they identified more and more Siberians, the  study was moved to the University of Minnesota’s Canine Genetics Lab, where the  SHPN genes were isolated, and a Genetic Test was developed.  The strong>Trust/strong> thanks and congratulates all involved in this great success story which  illustrates what can be accomplished when breeders, dog owners, researchers,  and donors work together toward a common goal—the betterment of the lives of  Siberian Huskies. /p>    p>For more information on SHPN please visit the U  of MN Siberian Husky Health Panel page, which includes information on their  other Siberian research and genetic testing.br>      em>https://vetmed.umn.edu/research/research-labs/canine-genetics-lab/canine-genetics-testing/siberian-husky-health-panel/em>.  /p>  /blockquote>p aligncenter>strong># # #/strong>/p>p alignjustify>*****************************************************************************************************************/p>blockquote>  p>Without the support and  donations of Siberian lovers, like you, we would not be able to help so many of  our breed in need.br>    Thanks to you all for  your support!/p>/blockquote>p alignjustify>*****************************************************************************************************************/p>blockquote>  p>strong>About the SHCA Trustbr>  /strong>Established in 2005, the Siberian Husky Club of America Trust is dedicated  to improve the lives of Siberian Huskies in the US through charitable work in  the areas of Education, Health, and Rescue.  Through fundraising and  donations, the Trust provides grants to be used for health and genetic  research, to provide educational materials, and to help with local rescue  efforts benefitting the Siberian Husky around the Country.  Organized as  an IRS 501(c)(3) public charity,completely separate from the SHCA, donations to the SHCA Trust may be tax deductible  to the extent permitted by law;
