Drill is intrigued and inspired by natural forms. This artists compositions combine structural integrity with the sensual curvilinear grace of found natural objects, such as leaves, shells or bone fragments. A walk in the woods, a stroll on the beach or a city street, and even the remains of a meal have served as a catalyst to creating a design. An engineer by training, Drill began his career as an artist working with welded metal. An interest in organic form led him to explore the expressive possibilities of more plastic media such as clay, wax or plaster, then casting each sculpture in bronze, acrylic or stainless steel.Philip Drill holds a degree from Widener University in civil engineering. He studied sculpture with Claudio Capotondi, Harold Sclar and Hans Rowensky. His award-winning work has been well received in many one-man shows, juried exhibitions, art festivals and museums; his sculpture is represented in numerous private, corporate and public collections. Drill is currently represented by Ranieri Gallery, New York, N.Y. A selected listing of shows includes:ul> li> Audobon Artists Inc.
