I signed up for the Coast Guard in November 2007 and was told I would be heading to bootcamp in May. During that winter I decided I wanted to move back home to Pinetop to be closer to my family before heading to boot camp in Cape May, New Jersey. I got a great job as snowboarding instructor that winter that allowed me to partake daily in one of my lifes passions while also teaching others how to have fun and be safe on the slopes. It truly was a dream job./p> /div>!--//item--> div classitem> h3 classtitle>Wildland Fire Fighter - span classplace>a href#>Avra Valley, AZ/a>/span> span classyear>(2006 - 2007)/span>/h3> p>I moved to Tucson Arizona after high school to search for more opportunity. I loved being a fire fighter but I didnt want to stay in my small town that I grew up in. I was able to work at Avra Valley fire department part time while also working full time for a tile installation company. The fire fighting work would require me to pack my bags and head out on 14 day assignements several times a year during the fire season. I worked on a small engine crew that would travel to places such as Utah, Montana and other parts of Arizona such as the north rim of the Grand Canyon to help fight wildland fires./p> /div>!--//item--> div classitem> h3 classtitle>Fire Fighter - span classplace>a href#>Pinetop/Lakeside Fire Dept., AZ/a>/span> span classyear>(2003 - 2005)/span>/h3> p>When I was still a senior in high school, I had the opportunity to duel-enroll in the local community college that was offering classes that would lead me on a path to becoming a fire fighter. The college partnered with the local fire dept (which was just Pinetop Fire Dept. at the time before they merged with Lakeside) to train a new generation of fire fighters. The training was an absolutely amazing experienced that taught me everything from confined space rescue, to live fire excercises and even how to respond to serious car accidents. After the initial training I was able to work part time at the department as a Red Shirt (no not the Star Trek kind, thankfully) which gave me some exciting real world experience. Here I was also able to get wildland certified./p> /div>!--//item--> /div>!--//content--> /div>!--//section-inner--> /section>!--//section--> section classlatest section> div classsection-inner> h2 classheading>Undergraduate Research/h2> div classcontent> div classitem featured text-center> h3 classtitle>a hrefhttp://imod-asu.weebly.com/publications.html target_blank>IMoDS/a>/h3> p classsummary>Instructional Module Development System/p> div classfeatured-image has-ribbon> a hrefhttp://imod-asu.weebly.com/publications.html target_blank> img classimg-fluid project-image srcassets/images/projects/imods.png altproject name /> /a> /div> div classdesc text-left> p>This research project produced a detailed assessment of the IMODS tool and its impact on improving faculty knowledge of outcomes-based course design processes.
