When a file with an extensionof .pli or .pl1 is edited, it is processed by the Plieditplugin. br>br>Syntax coloring is provided and is highlycustomizable, including the ability to specify foreground andbackground colors and font characteristics (face, size, etc.) at the token and individualkeyword level. Because keywords are not reserved in PL/I, thecoloring is based on semantic usage rather than syntactic content. Error and warning messages are provided in theProblems view. br>br>The PL/I grammar (language specification) is inclusive, and is based onthe full and subset ANSI standards with IBM extensions. It isgenerally robust although some corrections, future enhancements andrefinements are expected. Preprocessor statement support islimited.br>br>Performance with large PL/I source files (up to 100K characters) isquite reasonable. For very large PL/I source files (up to 1Mcharacters), performance is generally acceptable on modern machines.br>br>hr stylewidth: 100%; height: 2px;>br>span stylefont-weight: bold;>Status:/span>br>br>span stylecolor: red; font-weight: bold;>/span>The Pliedit plugin is essentially functional but numerousperipheral features are missing and it is still underdevelopment. Because we believe it is usable and useful in its current state, afunctionally incomplete, open beta test version is being made available at thissite. Our hope is that live user feedback will enable us toprioritize the needed features and extensions for future work. br>br>We encourage any users who find this plugin useful to give usfeedback. A separate update site is provided for each Eclipseversion, as follows:br>ul stylefont-weight: bold;> ul> li>http://pliedit.com/update32/ span stylefont-weight: normal;>(For Eclipse Version 3.2 / Callisto)/span>/li> li>http://pliedit.com/update33/ span stylefont-weight: normal;>(For Eclipse Version 3.3 / Europa)/span>/li> li>http://pliedit.com/update34/ span stylefont-weight: normal;>(For Eclipse Version 3.4 / Ganymede)/span>/li> li>http://pliedit.com/update35/ span stylefont-weight: normal;>(For Eclipse Version 3.5 / Galileo)/span>/li> /ul>/ul>The process of installing a plugin using the update manager isthoroughly described in theEclipse documentation. Basically all that is necessary forPliedit installation is to use the appropriate URL from the abovelist. The installation will fail if the wrong update site is used.br>br>The Java runtime level must be 1.5 or later for all versions. br>br>After the Pliedit plugin is installed or updated, it must be enabled for use (one time) byselecting a check box located in the About... preference page.br>br>span stylecolor: red; font-weight: bold;>NOTICE: If your downloaded version (0.0.4) does not run, please update the software to version 0.0.5 using the Update Manager./span>span stylefont-weight: bold;>/span> There was an initial problem which has been fixed.br>br>hr stylewidth: 100%; height: 2px;>br>span stylefont-weight: bold;>About the Terms of Use:/span>br>br>This functionally incomplete Pliedit plugin version is provided on an as-is, time restricted, open betatest basis. It may be used casually for evaluation and forparticipation in the beta test. br>br>Currently there is no registration requirement and no attempt will be madeto identify the users who download the plugin. No dynamic usagefeedback is provided to us via the web. We hope you will send usemail (at pliedit@pliedit.com) or become a registered user of the a href/bb/>PLIEDIT forums/a> to let us know who you are and how youuse Pliedit. br>br>Here is an informal descriptionof the Terms of Use in the license:br>br>First, as with almost all other software licenses, Pliedit comes withno warranty and you assume all risk and liability for its use. Ifyou choose to participate in the beta test by using the as-is Pliedit pluginwith development or production level PL/I code, you must understand andaccept the risks you take.br>br>Next, we tell you not distribute the plugin in any way. Do notdownload a copy directly from the update site and save or distributeit. You must use the update manager. This is because weneed to track the degree to which Pliedit is being installed bymonitoring the updatesite activity. If your colleagues want to use Pliedit, pleasetell them to use the update manager. (Obviously wedont want you trying to sell it, either). br>br>During the beta test, we would like all copies of the plugin thatare being used to be reasonably current. Each beta version of thePliedit plugin will have an enforced expiration date of a few monthsafter it is made available. TheEclipse update manager can be set to automatically update the Plieditplugin to the latest version. Our intent is to always haveupdated versions available (with a comfortable update window) until aformal release is made.br>br>The process of enabling the plugin on the About...preference page is to inform you of the program expiration date, and to remind youof these Terms of Use in case they were missed during the installationprocess. br>br>Pliedit is currently closed source. Be advised that there is nomagic involved, and we will be happy to discuss the tools andtechniques that are used. In order to improve performance and reduce the size of thedownload file (our web host restricts filesizes), the Java code has been optimized and names have been reduced toone or two characters.br>br>We dont want you to modify the program, or to decompile it so that youcan modify it. Ifyou have a legitimate need for thesource, please discuss it with us. We retain copyright andownership to insure orderly development of Pliedit in the future. br>br>We think these terms are reasonable, and hope you do as well. Ifyou have questions or concerns regarding these Terms of Use, pleasecontact us at pliedit@pliedit.com. If you do not accept theseterms, do not download Pliedit. We reserve the right to changethese terms in future updates or versions.br>br stylefont-weight: bold;>hr stylewidth: 100%; height: 2px; font-weight: bold;>br stylefont-weight: bold;>span stylefont-weight: bold;>Using the Pliedit Forums:/span> span stylefont-weight: bold;>/span>a href../bb/>Click here to visit the Pliedit forums (bulletin board)/a>span stylefont-weight: bold;>br>/span>br>The Pliedit forums do not require registration to be used.
