It functioned successfully until 1939 Wartime came, the Home was closed and the children were sent away. The buildings were commandeered by the Ministry of Defence and became an army Barracks until 1944. After the end of the war the buildings stood idle and derelict for the next 14 years and were eventually pulled down in 1958. The site was purchased by land developers in 1960 and the estate was built by Wimpeys between 1963 to 1965./p> p>Links to Local services:/p>ol>li>p>a hrefhttp://www.sussexwt.org.uk/>The Sussex Wildlife Trust/a> was formed in 1961, and is now the largest conservation organisation dedicated to conserving the natural heritage of Sussex./p>/li>li>p>a hrefhttp://www.rustingtonpc.org/>Rustington/a> Parish Council Local Information/p>/li>li>p>a hrefhttp://www.westsussextoday.co.uk/>West Sussex Gazette/a> Your local county paper/p>/li>li>p>a hrefhttp://www.littlehamptontoday.co.uk/>Littlehampton Gazette/a> Local Littlehampton town paper/p>/li>li>p>a hrefhttp://www.theargus.co.uk/>The Argus /a>Local evening paper. The rock has many fossils, and bands of flint occur throughout the formation. Erosion has removed the central part of the dome, leaving the South Downs as the outer southern uplands, the North Downs being its counterpart, as shown on the diagram. The harder rock, and the highest remaining part of the dome, is the Weald. The chalk, being porous, allows water to soak through; as a result there are many winterbournes along the northern edge.. /p>/div>/div>!-- end latest-post --> !-- start recent-posts -->div idrecent-posts>div classpost>p classmeta>small>Posted by Admin on November 14th 2009/small>br />/p>/div>!-- start div weather -->div classspacer>h3>Weather and Tide for Rustington/h3>p>img srcexternal_files/images/littlehampton-pier_350.gif width143 height64 classcentre alticon /> br />forecast:a hrefhttp://www.metcheck.com/V40/UK/FREE/today.asp?zipcodebn16 titletodays forecast> today/a>, a hrefhttp://www.metcheck.com/V40/UK/FREE/7days.asp?zipcodebn16 title7 day forecast> week/a>/p>!-- start of tide tables -->div idtide >a hrefhttp://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/coast/tides/tides.shtml?date20090327&loc0074>Tide table for Littlehampton./a>/div>/div>!-- end div weather -->!-- end of tide tables -->div classpost>h2 classtitle>Rustington people/h2>p classmeta>small>Posted by Admin on July 1st, 2009br />/small>/p> div classspacer01>ul>li>a hrefhttps://www.flickr.com/photos/littlewiggy/sets/72157644781625196/>My Garden Diary/a> My Garden Diary while working on the gardens at Millfield Overstrand Rustington West Sussex. /a> All images are from the garden and over the sea wall/li>li>a hrefhttp://www.jmbarrie.co.uk/>JM Barrie,/a> author of Peter Pan and artist Graham Sutherland among others resided in Rustington./li>li>The film If.... was written on the villages Sea Estate, in a house belonging to the mother of the film director Lindsay Anderson./li>li>a hrefhttp://www.gardenvisit.com/biography/sir_geoffrey_jellicoe>Sir Geoffrey Jellicoe/a> (1900-1996) was an English landscape architect, garden designer, Architect and author.
