Giles em>loved/em> those strings./p>p>Giles was a "talker". He would announce his presence whenever he entered a room,em>"Giles in the house! Let's get this party started!"/em> And he would yell at thetop of his lungs if I took too long dishing out breakfast. He frequently lounged on his back with his a href/gallery/574ff520>underside on fulldisplay/a>./p>p>He loved eye contact—not merely staring, but actual, a href/gallery/0f6b5c40>pierce-your-soul eye contact/a>.He would jump into my lap, a href/gallery/8e734771>reach up/a> and tap my face, andthen a href/gallery/46c8f235>gaze into my eyes/a> for minutes at a time. In thosemoments he didn't want anything, he wasn't begging for food or pets, he justneeded to judge me. Even a diagnosis ofgastric lymphoma in January 2021 couldn't dampen his charm and charisma. We had a fewstretches of remission where he was almost back to his old self. I will treasurethose moments forever./p>p>After a near-full remission over the holidays, the masses returned. We decidedto discontinue treatment; his oncologist gave low odds of efficacy with theremaining chemo options, and it just wasn't worth the stress to his little body.His condition declined rapidly and a week later he made it clear he couldn'tfight anymore.
