They would take the gin, pour it onto gunpowder, and if it ignited, that would prove there is sufficient alcohol in the gin. In 1816, a device called a Sikes hydrometer was invented, which allowed the alcoholic strength to be precisely measured. The Navy then collected 100 samples of gin diluted to proof using the old gunpowder test and then measured the proof of each sample using one of the new hydrometers. The average was 95.5 on the Sikes scale, which equated to 54.5% alc./vol., thus this strength was adopted as standard Navy Strength./span>/p> /div> /div> /div> /section> section classpy-5> div classcontainer> div classd-md-flex gap-3> div classflex-shrink-1> div classtext-center> img srchttp://geraniumgin.com/assets/files/img/uploads/65d9e584302d7.jpg stylemax-height:300px;max-width:100%; title65d9e584302d7.jpg alt65d9e584302d7.jpg> /div> /div> div classw-100 stylewhite-space: pre-line;> p>span stylecolor:hsl(0,0%,0%);>Awarded in 17 different international spirits tastings and winning several cocktail competitions in Europe, Asia and USA, Geranium Gin has proven its high quality as a base spirit and bringing superior taste, flavour and balance to a cocktail./span>/p> /div> /div> /div> /section> section classpy-5> div classcontainer> div classd-md-flex gap-3> div classw-100 stylewhite-space: pre-line;> p>span stylecolor:hsl(0,0%,0%);>Geranium Gin is produced with energy from sun and wind, and water from our own artesian well. The Navy then collected 100 samples of gin diluted to proof using the old gunpowder test and then measured the proof of each sample using one of the new hydrometers.
