p>笛吹山恵性院は、JR両毛線小俣駅から西北約五百米、笛吹坂と呼ばれている田足尾街道（鎌倉道）筋の山側に位置する真言密教寺院です。br>寺伝によると、平安末期に真言宗別格本山鶏足寺末として吽誉法印により明月院と称し開創されました。br>当山境内墓地に県指定重文の「稚児の碑」と呼ばれる延文五年に造顕された石碑があり、この碑に足利の伝説として残る稚児と郷土の娘の悲恋物語が秘めれています。br>明月院が現在の恵性院と改称されたのは宝歴元年、舜岳上人の中興の時とされています。br>その後も、再三の祝融の災火で伽藍、記録等消失して寺歴等不詳であり、現在の不堂は明治三十七年第十八世親海代の再建です。br>境内中央にある「小俣水子千躰地蔵尊」は現在中興二十三世俊明代に建立され遠近の人々の供養が御座います。/p>
