Got my hair done. Finally made time for that. For years now that means driving to Enone Beauty Salon in Lachine. When I entered at 8am a worship song was playing and my soul sighed with happiness. For a few hours I was not working at my Mac and the cell phone was not in my hand. Yes I confess that I did do some business … and even had a long-ish chat with a friend going through a crisis. My apologies to Marie because I was not ecstatic about my hair when she was finished her work. This is normal for me, and I think she actually ignores me now….. But she’s good and business-like (praise God!) …which is why I keep going back to her. Love that woman./p>p>a hrefhttp://carolbernard.ca/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/IMG_5067-2-e1511629008770.jpg>img classalignnone size-medium wp-image-121 srchttp://carolbernard.ca/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/IMG_5067-2-e1511629008770-225x300.jpg altIMG_5067 2 width225 height300 />/a>/p>p>At 6:30pm I had a meeting with a new member of the #ONE17 team – Angelo Cadet. Enjoying getting to know this man. This time we met at WeWork at Place Ville Marie. Cool place. I’ll be back. Made good progress with the pacing/staging of the show. Haha. But both of us were tired from our week … and more than ready to leave at 8:30pm. For me it was a nice walk there and back./p>p>Two quotes that spoke to me this morning when I checked Instagram …./p>p stylepadding-left: 30px;>“The quickest way to forget what God thinks about us is to become obsessed with what people think about us” ~ Craig Groeschel/p>p stylepadding-left: 30px;>“According to research, if you change your mind about stress you can change your body’s response to stress.” ~ Dr Leaf/p>p>So far today I did a bit of work and wrote this blog. I graduated from McGill University with a major in mathematics and a minor in Computer Science, and I started job hunting……………………………../p>p>Thankfully that job offer was not an April Fools’ joke. More than 1 year after graduation I got that job at CN in the field that I had studied for, computer programming, with an exciting salary. After that I was steadily promoted up through the ranks in the Information Systems department until I was a Business Systems Officer… then I moved to senior management as Manager of Business Planning in Marketing./p>p>So today is the anniversary of the start of my 14-year career at CN Rail. I worked hard, learnt tons, and met beautiful people. Invaluable. Unforgettable. Thank you CN./p>p>Now I work hard as a music minister. The money is not at all the same (HA!) but I know that I was created to do this, and my husband agrees. Purpose. Trust me though when I say that all the years at CN were not a waste. Yes leading Montreal Gospel Choir and Jireh Gospel Choir is about music…and it’s about people and business./p>p>Don’t give up. In the year between my graduation and being hired at CN I worked in a job that didn’t require much of my brain, although afterwards I saw its merits. In that job I could measure what I had accomplished at the end of the day…not something you can always do when you are in management. img srchttp://carolbernard.ca/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif alt;-) classwp-smiley />/p>p>DON’T GIVE UP!/p>p>Happy April Fools Day./p> /div>!-- .entry-content --> footer classentry-meta> span classcat-links> span classentry-utility-prep entry-utility-prep-cat-links>Posted in/span> a hrefhttp://carolbernard.ca/?cat1 relcategory>Uncategorized/a> /span> span classsep> | /span> span classcomments-link>a hrefhttp://carolbernard.ca/?p111#comments titleComment on DON’T GIVE UP!>b>1/b> Reply/a>/span> /footer>!-- .entry-meta --> /article>!-- #post-111 --> article idpost-102 classpost-102 post type-post status-publish format-standard hentry category-uncategorized> header classentry-header> h1 classentry-title>a hrefhttp://carolbernard.ca/?p102 titlePermalink to Saturday – the day between Good Friday and Easter Sunday relbookmark>Saturday – the day between Good Friday and Easter Sunday/a>/h1> div classentry-meta> span classsep>Posted on /span>a hrefhttp://carolbernard.ca/?p102 title5:17 pm relbookmark>time classentry-date datetime2016-03-26T17:17:24+00:00>March 26, 2016/time>/a>span classby-author> span classsep> by /span> span classauthor vcard>a classurl fn n hrefhttp://carolbernard.ca/?author1 titleView all posts by admin relauthor>admin/a>/span>/span> /div>!-- .entry-meta --> div classcomments-link> a hrefhttp://carolbernard.ca/?p102#comments titleComment on Saturday – the day between Good Friday and Easter Sunday>2/a> /div> /header>!-- .entry-header --> div classentry-content> p>Saturday. The day between Good Friday and Easter./p>p>Today as I cook curry goat I’m thinking about Easter’s past…remembering my Mom and all her cooking and baking. Goat. Turkey. Easter Bun. Hot cross buns. Cheese. And yes chocolates. Easter egg hunts when we were really young with clues by Mom that led us all over the house…a tradition that my brother Paul has picked up and lays on his houseful of guests (young and old) every Christmas! Normally at the end of our hunts it was solid chocolate Easter bunnies. Not eggs. One for each of us – me, David, and Paul./p>p>Thank God for my parents, for my Jamaican heritage, and for them pointing me to Jesus. He truly makes all the difference. Of course I had to choose Him for myself./p>p>I confess that I love social media. Maybe because I love people? Today a friend posted the question…”did Jesus spend Saturday in hell?”. Huh. Interesting. Regardless. I am so glad that God knows me so well and loved me (and you) so much that He provided a way where justice and mercy meets – the cross. em>(Yes Pastor Patti Miller I was listening yesterday. Great message my friend.)br />/em>/p>p>Yesterday, Good Friday, Ted and I joined other believers in Montreal the city we love at Evangel Church to “celebrate” the death of Jesus. Afterwards the rich and delicious music of “Handel’s Messiah” was playing in our home and (ha!) I was shaking my head over the fact that in my teens and early twenties I led the first choir I ever directed through many of those choruses: Hallelujah, Behold the lamb of God, O Thou that tellest good tidings to Zion, For unto us a child is born, Worthy is the lamb that was slain, and Amen. My Dad’s fault. img srchttp://carolbernard.ca/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif alt;-) classwp-smiley />/p>p>Tomorrow I will celebrate Easter at a well-known theatre in Montreal – Théâtre Rialto. La Chapelle, the French church that I have been attending for the past 3 years has rented it for 3 services – 9:45am, 11:45am, and 6:30pm. Sixty (60) people will be baptized. Yes I mean 60. That is not a typo. 60 people who have decided to follow Jesus…and one of them is a member of Montreal Gospel Choir so many of us will be at the 9:45am service to shout and scream…and afterwards some will come to my home (and Ted’s) to party./p>p>Happy Saturday. Quel voyage! What a trip!? Great kick off to our 20sup>th/sup> season./p>p>em>Fun fact. Jireh sang at the inauguration of that Loblaws location in 1998, and in a way we were there at the “end” because a few days after our tour it was renamed to “Provigo”./em>/p>p>Early Wednesday morning we continued on our way to the first concert venue – Salle Jean-Marc-Dion in Sept-Îles. WOW. They were ready for us. CD sales were brisk before the concert and those 530 beautiful people reacted as spontaneously, loudly and enthusiastically as the people at my church a few weeks before! Oh yes they sang. And danced. J Great kick-off to the tour./p>p>On to Centre des arts de Baie-Comeau, where concertgoers expressed so much gratitude to us for coming, some with tears in their eyes. That night we stayed in a beautiful old manor that I told my beloved husband I would like to re-visit./p>p>The next morning during breakfast we learnt that the ferry to Rimouski was canceled. Ouff. There began a very long day. Do you know the geography of Quebec? Our bus left the hotel in Baie-Comeau at 9am and arrived at Salle Desjardins-Telus in Rimouski via Quebec City… at 7:06pm. Set-up, sound check, meal, dress, make up, and prayer in record time. You know what? Without stellar teamwork, exceptionally good attitudes and belief on the part of many people – team Jireh, the concert hall, and our bus driver – this amazing concert in the birthplace of Hubert Tremblay, Jireh’s guitar player, would never have happened. Proud moment./p>p>Last but not least was Salle Alphonse-Desjardins in Rivière du Loup after which we hit the road for home, arriving back in Montreal the early hours of Sunday morning./p>p>For me one of the best parts of Jireh concerts is the CD signing where I get to speak with you. It’s great to hear your stories. For so many, attending a live gospel concert for the first time was a dream come true. Some of you told me how much better you felt afterwards. Many took us home (CDs). At least 2 said they would be looking for a church. At least three people followed us to Baie-Comeau after hearing us at Sept-Îles, and we know that at least one person took an airplane after hearing us in Baie-Comeau to hear us again in Rimouski./p>p>We love you Sept-Île, Baie-Comeau, Rimouski, and Rivière du loup. We prayed for you before we came and we won’t stop. You are in our hearts now./p>p>Thank God for a comfortable bus with the best bus driver, and the spectacular scenery, God’s creation, to marvel at along the way. I am so thankful to God that Benjamin Linford Bernard was my father. He was tough and he was love. He was passionate, a warrior, loved music, loved to learn, and (HA!) how he loved to joke. I never doubted that he loved me and I never felt that I was limited in what I could do. Yesterday at church one of the worship songs was “Forever” by Kari Jobe. I’m telling you that although I was on the edge of ugly cry, I sang loudly, with all of my heart, and realized again deep in my soul that I really believe the gospel of Jesus. “Death where is thy sting…. He is alive”. Dad is from a big family and he and my Mom (deceased) “adopted” and sponsored so many people. Make no mistake about this. We are sad. I am sad and feel like I could cry for a long time…but I also rejoice because I know that Daddy/Ben/MrBernard/UncleBen is…more alive than he has ever been./p>p>A celebration of his life will be held at Cote Des Neiges Presbyterian Church, 3435 Côte-Sainte-Catherine, Montreal, on Friday July 31 at 11am, then burial at Notre-Dame-des-Neiges Cemetery./p> /div>!-- .entry-content --> footer classentry-meta> span classcat-links> span classentry-utility-prep entry-utility-prep-cat-links>Posted in/span> a hrefhttp://carolbernard.ca/?cat1 relcategory>Uncategorized/a> /span> span classsep> | /span> span classcomments-link>a hrefhttp://carolbernard.ca/?p75#comments titleComment on forever>b>13/b> Replies/a>/span> /footer>!-- .entry-meta --> /article>!-- #post-75 --> article idpost-71 classpost-71 post type-post status-publish format-standard has-post-thumbnail hentry category-uncategorized> header classentry-header> h1 classentry-title>a hrefhttp://carolbernard.ca/?p71 titlePermalink to Father’s Day 2015 relbookmark>Father’s Day 2015/a>/h1> div classentry-meta> span classsep>Posted on /span>a hrefhttp://carolbernard.ca/?p71 title6:07 pm relbookmark>time classentry-date datetime2015-06-21T18:07:32+00:00>June 21, 2015/time>/a>span classby-author> span classsep> by /span> span classauthor vcard>a classurl fn n hrefhttp://carolbernard.ca/?author1 titleView all posts by admin relauthor>admin/a>/span>/span> /div>!-- .entry-meta --> div classcomments-link> a hrefhttp://carolbernard.ca/?p71#respond titleComment on Father’s Day 2015>span classleave-reply>Reply/span>/a> /div> /header>!-- .entry-header --> div classentry-content> p>a hrefhttp://carolbernard.ca/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/12jun2015.jpg>img classalignnone size-medium wp-image-68 srchttp://carolbernard.ca/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/12jun2015-300x300.jpg alt12jun2015 width300 height300 />/a>br />I thank my Father in heaven for my father – Benjamin Linford Bernard. Tomorrow is the first day of spring. I love living in a part of the world where there are 4 distinct seasons. I find it fascinating to watch the rejuvenation of things that look dead. Ha! Yes that goes for house plants that I forget about, as well as the trees outside my window./p>p>Did you have to come up with a favorite quote for your high school yearbook the year you graduated? I put this Emerson quote: “All I have seen teaches me to trust the Creator for all I have not seen”. Well since high school I have lived through a number of things and people dying on me. Not easy. And I have also been blessed to see beautiful often unexpected new things growing – new dreams, new projects, new relationships. These experiences and my faith give me the strength to hold on during the cold grey unclear winter times in my life./p>p>Another reflection on dead things is that…we will all die one day. Funny. That’s one of the only things we can know for sure. Not sure what that thought does for you, but at this moment it motivates me to live in a way that is fully alive, pleases God, and inspires others. No time for holding on to the bad things people have done to me…. Focusing on good things. Moving forward./p>p>You all know that I’m into gospel music, right? Gospel music is that panoply or evolution of black music – negro spirituals, blues, jazz, r&b, hip-hop, etc. The message is basically the good news about a man called Jesus who claims to be God (Liar? Lunatic?) who died, came back to life, and is alive today. Easter is a celebration of Him coming back to life. And interestingly enough, one comment I frequently hear from fans after one of our gospel concerts is how alive they feel./p>p>This Spring/Easter my prayer for you is that whatever died in you would come back to life./p>p>Don’t give up/p>p>Happy Spring! So I waited. What was I waiting for? A man that is crazy about God and crazy about me. That was my list./p>p>Ted Dettweiler pursued me and I loved it…and I drove myself (and him) crazy trying to ascertain whether he was the one. After all, this was the second most important decision of my life and I did not want to get it wrong. And you know that analysis is one of my strengths, right? Some writing on the wall would have been nice though. Red gum balls anyone? Don’t ask./p>p>How did we meet? A cute girl heard Ted singing at his church and invited him to join the gospel choir that she was part of, that I was directing. No it was not love at first sight but we became friends. Good friends. In fact Ted became my best friend…and I wondered why he wanted to mess with that. Why risk a great friendship for a relationship that might last 3 months?/p>p>More than 205 months ago I married Ted and I’m so glad I did. Phew. Close call. Dance with me./p>p>TODAY you can a hrefhttps://itunes.apple.com/ca/album/get-up/id922087528 target_blank>PRE-ORDER/a> the new Jireh Gospel Choir CD “Get Up” to download 1 song (our single) right away. You could do that now. I’ll be here when you get back. And it will make great background music while you read the rest of this…except that you’ll probably want to get up and dance./p>p>How do you make a CD?/p>p>I don’t know how other people go about making a record but in a series of posts I’m planning let you in on how we made this CD. I say “we” because this project involves about 50 people – songwriters, singers, instrumentalists, and admin. And then you add to that number the agencies working with us on manufacturing, distribution, and marketing./p>p>How do you make a CD?/p>p>First of all, trust God. I could NEVER have completed this project without God. Too many uncontrollable variables. The “Get Up” project is about God, because of Him, and for the people that He loves…including you. My prayer is that this music will inspire you to “Get Up” from whatever situation is trying to keep you down./p>p>Secondly, you marry well. Seriously. If I didn’t have the husband that I have I would not be the person that I am. Thank you God for creating Ted Eric Dettweiler. Check out his blog a hrefhttp://dettweiler.ca/wp/ target_blank>here/a>. He posted something new and lovely today./p>p>Then there’s the other people who you absolutely need on your team./p>p>I chose my friend/brother monster bass player and producer Alexandre Paquette to produce this CD and I am so very glad that I did. Alex is married to the Junie Cyprien who has sung with Jireh for…a very long time. They met because of Jireh and Alex thinks they are Jireh couple #1. He’s wrong because that would be me and Ted, but I humour him. Alex also plays bass on the album. Can’t wait for you to hear some his delicious bass lines./p>p>Then I asked my friend/brother Rex Verzosa to help me (assistant producer)…because he knows me, has been a part of Jireh for years, and because he’s a gifted artist. It could be said that he and Melissa Ouimet are Jireh couple #3. Rex wrote 2 songs on the album including “Get Up”, the last song that I accepted for the project…which became the single. He also sings on 2 songs. And Rex is the graphic designer on this project./p>p>Then there’s my assistant Gabrielle Bernardin. She’s the best. A gift from God. Her background is in the film industry…and I think I will take time to tell you more about her in another post./p>p>Tomorrow I lead a gospel choir sing-along as part of “Les Journées de la culture” – em>three days of interactive activities, discovery and appreciation of arts and culture, offered free to the public throughout Quebec/em>. Members from both my choirs will be there – a hrefhttp://www.jirehgospelchoir.com target_blank>Jireh/a> Gospel Choir and Montreal Gospel Choir (a hrefhttp://www.montrealgospelchoir.com target_blank>MGC/a>) Downtown Montreal in the beautiful sanctuary of the a hrefhttps://goo.gl/maps/DnttN target_blank>Church of St John the Evangelist/a> (a.k.a. the Red Roof Church) in the Quartier des spectacles. Regardless. We are sad. Happy Easter!/p> /div>!-- .entry-content --> footer classentry-meta> span classcat-links> span classentry-utility-prep entry-utility-prep-cat-links>Posted in/span> a hrefhttps://carolbernard.ca/?cat1 relcategory>Uncategorized/a> /span> span classsep> | /span> span classcomments-link>a hrefhttps://carolbernard.ca/?p63#comments titleComment on Happy Spring!>b>4/b> Replies/a>/span> /footer>!-- .entry-meta --> /article>!-- #post-63 --> article idpost-56 classpost-56 post type-post status-publish format-standard has-post-thumbnail hentry category-uncategorized> header classentry-header> h1 classentry-title>a hrefhttps://carolbernard.ca/?p56 titlePermalink to About Love relbookmark>About Love/a>/h1> div classentry-meta> span classsep>Posted on /span>a hrefhttps://carolbernard.ca/?p56 title6:38 pm relbookmark>time classentry-date datetime2015-02-10T18:38:42+00:00>February 10, 2015/time>/a>span classby-author> span classsep> by /span> span classauthor vcard>a classurl fn n hrefhttps://carolbernard.ca/?author1 titleView all posts by admin relauthor>admin/a>/span>/span> /div>!-- .entry-meta --> div classcomments-link> a hrefhttps://carolbernard.ca/?p56#comments titleComment on About Love>4/a> /div> /header>!-- .entry-header --> div classentry-content> p>a hrefhttp://carolbernard.ca/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/10478226_719028578144060_1499330076463527249_n.jpg>img classalignnone size-medium wp-image-57 srchttp://carolbernard.ca/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/10478226_719028578144060_1499330076463527249_n-270x300.jpg alt10478226_719028578144060_1499330076463527249_n width270 height300 />/a>/p>p>I am not an expert on love but I am an unashamed romantic./p>p>It was clear to me that I wanted to find my man and that I had not received the gift of singleness. Phew. Close call. Almost missed it./p>p>Carol loves Ted./p> /div>!-- .entry-content --> footer classentry-meta> span classcat-links> span classentry-utility-prep entry-utility-prep-cat-links>Posted in/span> a hrefhttps://carolbernard.ca/?cat1 relcategory>Uncategorized/a> /span> span classsep> | /span> span classcomments-link>a hrefhttps://carolbernard.ca/?p56#comments titleComment on About Love>b>4/b> Replies/a>/span> /footer>!-- .entry-meta --> /article>!-- #post-56 --> article idpost-44 classpost-44 post type-post status-publish format-standard hentry category-uncategorized> header classentry-header> h1 classentry-title>a hrefhttps://carolbernard.ca/?p44 titlePermalink to How do you make a CD? relbookmark>How do you make a CD?/a>/h1> div classentry-meta> span classsep>Posted on /span>a hrefhttps://carolbernard.ca/?p44 title1:11 pm relbookmark>time classentry-date datetime2014-09-27T13:11:18+00:00>September 27, 2014/time>/a>span classby-author> span classsep> by /span> span classauthor vcard>a classurl fn n hrefhttps://carolbernard.ca/?author1 titleView all posts by admin relauthor>admin/a>/span>/span> /div>!-- .entry-meta --> div classcomments-link> a hrefhttps://carolbernard.ca/?p44#comments titleComment on How do you make a CD?>10/a> /div> /header>!-- .entry-header --> div classentry-content> p>Today is a “happy dance” day for me. AND…we will shoot part of the promotional video for the new CD!!!! Big day. Come!/p>p>To be continued…../p> /div>!-- .entry-content --> footer classentry-meta> span classcat-links> span classentry-utility-prep entry-utility-prep-cat-links>Posted in/span> a hrefhttps://carolbernard.ca/?cat1 relcategory>Uncategorized/a> /span> span classsep> | /span> span classcomments-link>a hrefhttps://carolbernard.ca/?p44#comments titleComment on How do you make a CD?>b>10/b> Replies/a>/span> /footer>!-- .entry-meta --> /article>!-- #post-44 --> nav idnav-below> h3 classassistive-text>Post navigation/h3> div classnav-previous>a hrefhttps://carolbernard.ca/?paged2 >span classmeta-nav>←/span> Older posts/a>/div> div classnav-next>/div> /nav>!-- #nav-above --> /div>!-- #content --> /div>!-- #primary --> div idsecondary classwidget-area rolecomplementary> aside idsearch-2 classwidget widget_search> form methodget idsearchform actionhttps://carolbernard.ca/> label fors classassistive-text>Search/label> input typetext classfield names ids placeholderSearch /> input typesubmit classsubmit namesubmit idsearchsubmit valueSearch /> /form>/aside> aside idrecent-posts-2 classwidget widget_recent_entries> h3 classwidget-title>Recent Posts/h3> ul> li> a hrefhttps://carolbernard.ca/?p118>#ONE17 chronicles – ep 1/a> /li> li> a hrefhttps://carolbernard.ca/?p111>DON’T GIVE UP!/a> /li> li> a hrefhttps://carolbernard.ca/?p102>Saturday – the day between Good Friday and Easter Sunday/a> /li> li> a hrefhttps://carolbernard.ca/?p94>En tournée avec Jireh – Touring with Jireh/a> /li> li> a hrefhttps://carolbernard.ca/?p84>Church girl/a> /li> /ul> /aside>aside idarchives-2 classwidget widget_archive>h3 classwidget-title>Archives/h3> ul> li>a hrefhttps://carolbernard.ca/?m201711>November 2017/a>/li> li>a hrefhttps://carolbernard.ca/?m201604>April 2016/a>/li> li>a hrefhttps://carolbernard.ca/?m201603>March 2016/a>/li> li>a hrefhttps://carolbernard.ca/?m201511>November 2015/a>/li> li>a hrefhttps://carolbernard.ca/?m201510>October 2015/a>/li> li>a hrefhttps://carolbernard.ca/?m201507>July 2015/a>/li> li>a hrefhttps://carolbernard.ca/?m201506>June 2015/a>/li> li>a hrefhttps://carolbernard.ca/?m201503>March 2015/a>/li> li>a hrefhttps://carolbernard.ca/?m201502>February 2015/a>/li> li>a hrefhttps://carolbernard.ca/?m201409>September 2014/a>/li> li>a hrefhttps://carolbernard.ca/?m201408>August 2014/a>/li> li>a hrefhttps://carolbernard.ca/?m201406>June 2014/a>/li> li>a hrefhttps://carolbernard.ca/?m201405>May 2014/a>/li> li>a hrefhttps://carolbernard.ca/?m201403>March 2014/a>/li> /ul>/aside> /div>!-- #secondary .widget-area --> /div>!-- #main --> footer idcolophon rolecontentinfo> div idsite-generator> a hrefhttp://wordpress.org/ titleSemantic Personal Publishing Platform>Proudly powered by WordPress/a> /div> /footer>!-- #colophon -->/div>!-- #page -->/body>/html>
