This might take a while.After that, every time ArtSaver gets invoked, it will just read this list, and neverhas to go through the whole directory tree, which can be a huge time savings, if thereare many images./p>h5 idadvantages>Advantages and Disadvantages Between the Two Programs/h5>ul> li> For ArtSaver, the screensaver proper: ul> li> Advantages: ul styleline-height: 0.9em;> li> It sits in your System Settings (see screenshot on the right) and gets launched by macOS like any other Mac screensaver after some idle time; /li> li> Your Mac will lock the screen while ArtSaver is running, so, this is recommended for Macs in public spaces; /li> li> It will run simultaneaously on several monitors, even with different sets of images. /ul> /li> li> Disadvantages: ul styleline-height: 0.9em;> li> It cannot handle keystrokes, so there is no way to control ArtSAver during runtime (e.g., going back to previous pictures); /li> /ul> /li> /ul> /li> li> For ArtSaverApp, the regular app: ul> li> Advantages: ul styleline-height: 0.9em;> li> You can control the slideshow using the keyboard, such as pause or going back to the previous image (press H to see all keys). /li> /ul> /li> li> Disadvantages: ul> li> The app is launched by you manually. (Depending on your use-case, this might actually be an advantage.) Apple just doesnt allow that access any more.So, here are three workarounds, if not solutions./p>p>The easiest way could be to just change the folder to kbd>~/Pictures/kbd>,and try if ArtSaver/ArtSaverApp will scan the library of the Photos app, too.In many cases, this will work; but, of course, you wont be able to scan individual photo albums,and ArtSaver wil pick up em>all/em> photos (originals and edited ones)./p>p>The first option is to export all the photos to a folder,for instance kbd>~/Pictures/My Photos/kbd>.It could also be on an external drive.For instance, I export them in batches, once a year for the past year, and put each year in a sub-folder under said kbd>My Photos/kbd>.(That way its easy to keep track.)br>Here is how to get started:/p>ol styleline-height: 0.8em; margin-top: -0.5em;> li> in the Photos app, create an album for one years worth of photos, /li> li> control-click the album, select Download Originals to this Mac, /li> li> after a while, export all the photos of the album, include all info, /li> li> continue with the next year. /li>/ol>p>I do it year by year, because I dont have enough free disk spaceto download all originals to my Mac.Also, I have to create a new album for every year.Of course, you can export all photos in one go, if all of them fit on yourdisk, or if you did i>not/i> check Optimize Mac Storage in Photospreferences./p>p>The second option is to em>uncheck/em> Copy items to the Photos libraryin Photos preferences em>before/em> you import your photos.That way they will stay on your hard drive where they are, Photos will just referencethem, and you wont double memory usage, because your photos will be storedonly once on disk (in the original place).br>So you can point ArtSaver to the folder where your originals reside andstill organize them using Photos.br>The downside might be that you should always remember that you never deleteor reorganize that folder containing your originals./p>p>The third option is to use the Photos database itself.Advantage: no duplicate copies, i.e., no extra disk space is needed.Disadvantage: you will see only the unmodified photos (no cropping, no color adjustments, nothing).br>How to do it: go to your Pictures folder;control-click on the iconkbd>Photos Library.photoslibrary/kbd>, then select Show Package Contents.Now go to ArtSavers settings. First, select Follow aliases, secondclick Change (Folder to search);a folder dialog appears. float: right;>/a>p>The regular app em>ArtSaverApp/em> is just like any other app.It usually sits in your Applications folder (or whereever you want to keep it).You can launch ArtSaverApp just like any other app by double-clicking it, or by searching for it in Spotlight.You go to its Settings just like any other app (top left menu kbd>ArtSaverApp / Settings.../kbd>, or kbd>CMD+,/kbd>)./p>p styleclear: both;>a hrefscreenshots/auto_launcher.png>img srcscreenshots/auto_launcher.png altauto launcher width200 stylepadding: 10px;
